Welcome to Gut Instinct, a site designed to help individuals learn about game and web development. Or really whatever pops into my head at any given moment.
My name is James Craig and I'm the person behind Gut Instinct. Since 2000 I've been learning about and creating small games, creating web apps, and maintaining my website.
From Hobby to Profession to Hobby Again
In 2003, I graduated from college and ended up getting a job as a programmer at a small game company. And like many people working in the industry, I found that I couldn't stand it. Between the hectic hours and some of the more "passionate" individuals, I knew it was time to move on. Since then I've continued to learn about game programming and have worked in my free time to develop various games, engines, and other projects that I've found interesting.
Why Gut Instinct?
Why did I create this site? A multitude of reasons really. But generally speaking I started this site because I wanted a location to document bits of code that I had written, let others learn from the horrible coding mistakes that I have made, and to highlight certain technologies that I find interesting. It wasn't created to show the best way to do things nor the most efficient. In fact many of the items that I put up here should probably never make their way into a commercial product. That being said, if you read the articles and learn something from them, even if it is what not to do, then I've done my job. If you would like more information about me or my site, please contact me.
